Alert Details

Northwest flow has dominated the corn-growing region weather pattern for the past few days and likely will into at least the early part of the weekend. After that, however, it does appear the overall weather pattern will shift back to at least a zonal if not at least a little bit of southwesterly flow, and corn earworm migration risks will accompany this transition. Low risks are already in the forecast west of I-35 tomorrow night into Sunday, with the risk then marching east daily to near Lake Michigan by late Sunday into Monday and then across the remainder of the eastern corn-growing region and southern Great Lakes early next week. It does appear that chances for more substantial corn earworm migration risks may hold off until later next week, so please stay tuned to the forecast next week for the latest as if the forecast holds as we see it today, elevated risks will be needed once again later next week on increasing and persistent southerly winds. Growers should continue trapping and scouting efforts in vulnerable fields and also keep in the back of the mind the potential for renewed moth flights later next week or weekend.
