Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks will gradually expand in coverage and also eventually in risk level as the week progresses as southerly winds increase in magnitude over time this week. Initially, Low risks focus mainly west of I-35 tonight into tomorrow as low pressure begins to organize in southern Canada but with High pressure still over the Ohio River valley, any migration risks should focus across western corn-growing region fields. The Low risk area does shift east of the Mississippi River tomorrow night into Wednesday as high pressure begins to move east, and by later in the week and next weekend we already have a Moderate migration risk in the forecast from eastern South Dakota and eastern Nebraska east into southern Minnesota, Iowa, northern Illinois, and into southern Wisconsin as southerly winds increase and continually focus in a corridor from Texas and the mid-south source regions north into areas mainly west of the Great Lakes. Low risks are also found across the Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing regions but southerly winds are expected to be more modest in this region, thus only isolated flights should occur. Growers are encouraged to regularly check traps and scout fields especially in those fields where corn earworm damage could occur.
