Alert Details

A cold front is expected to move through the corn-growing region over the next few days, and will bring about a pretty significant weather pattern change with it. Before the front moves through, however, lingering Low corn earworm migration risks are predicted mainly for fields from eastern Kansas into Missouri, far eastern Iowa, southeast Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, western and central Kentucky, western Ohio, and into southern lower Michigan tonight into tomorrow. South to southwest winds are expected to continue in the risk area into tomorrow, but are expected to be weaker in comparison to what was observed over the weekend. As a result, any further flights should be more isolated in nature. Growers with crops at susceptible stages to potential damage from corn earworms should continue monitoring traps and scouting fields as numerous, but scattered, areas just in the past week have recorded significant moth flights, and additional moth captures are probable from flights that may have occurred this past weekend. Despite little to no migration risk in the forecast for the balance of the week after tomorrow, corn earworms may continue to remain a threat despite a lack of any migration risks in the forecast.
