Corn Earworm
Corn earworm migration risks are in the forecast beginning tomorrow night into Friday and continue into at least early next week as a rather stagnant weather pattern sets up for the corn-growing region. High pressure is expected to remain largely over the eastern Great Lakes region while low pressure churns in the High Plains or southern Canada. In between, southerly winds will be common along with increasing temperatures. Corn earworm moths are still present in the mid-south and portions of the southern United States, and they may be more apt to move especially to fresh market or processing fields in the northern corn-growing region in such a regime. Low risks are predicted tomorrow night into Friday across areas mainly west of the Mississippi River before expanding east by late Friday into Saturday to near Lake Michigan and along/west of the I-57 corridor in eastern Illinois. We did remove any migration risk further east for this forecast cycle as high pressure looks to remain a little further west now and/or a backdoor cold front may limit southerly winds to the east, but we will continue to monitor and update as needed in future forecasts.
