Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks will remain in the forecast on a nightly basis through the weekend and into next week as a persistent weather pattern featuring high pressure in the Appalachian Mountains, as well as another high pressure north of the Great Lakes in Canada, and low pressure in the High Plains and southern Canada remain largely in place. Eventually, by mid-late next week, the pattern is expected to break down, but until then southerly winds will remain in place and may pose a risk for corn earworm migration especially into processing and fresh market fields in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois with any other remaining susceptible fields also potentially seeing moths further south, as well. By next week, the risk may spread into southwest lower Michigan and Indiana, as well, until a cold front passes through by Thursday or Friday. Growers with crops still at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage, again the processing and fresh market growers with intentionally late planted crops, should continue scouting and trapping efforts until harvest.
