Alert Details

As a cold front moves southeast through the northern and central corn-growing region, an upper level low pressure system is expected to move east across Kansas into Missouri and eventually further east into the eastern/southeastern corn-growing region. There is a window of potential for isolated corn earworm migration events tonight into tomorrow morning mainly along/east of the I-55 corridor before this upper level low pressure system interrupts wind flow further to the east, and also before the cold front continues advancing to the southeast. By later Tuesday into Wednesday, we are expected to lose much support for any migration as northerly winds increase and spread southeast, so little to no risk is predicted for the balance of the week after tomorrow morning. Fresh market and processing growers that still have crops in the field are encouraged to continue trapping and scouting efforts as some flights have been observed in the past few weeks, so any lingering fields that are still at attractive stages to corn earworm may be affected until harvest.
