Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks have been introduced to the forecast for both Friday and Saturday mornings as high pressure begins to drift off into the southern Appalachian Mountain area and also as low pressure develops in the central Plains. It does appear at least a weak cool front may push southeast through a portion of the corn-growing region by the weekend now. Southerly winds will increase to the east of the low pressure system, and may pose an isolated corn earworm migration risk initially west of the Mississippi River Thursday night into Friday before spreading east into the southern Great Lakes region by the weekend. While there is not a threat to field crops at this point, fresh market and garden growers are encouraged to monitor their crops as corn earworms can host on many different plants, and knowing where these moths are may be important later in the growing season.
