Corn Earworm
South to southwest winds are expected to increase ahead of a weak cool front and low pressure system moving through southern Canada by late week and into next weekend. These winds may persist long enough to pose an isolated corn earworm migration risk initially west of Lake Michigan and the I-57 corridor in eastern Illinois tomorrow night into Friday. As the front moves southeast, the risk area will also shift southeast and include areas from eastern Kansas northward into the eastern half of Iowa and southern Wisconsin and points eastward. Additional risks may be needed especially next week but with lower confidence. There is little threat to field crops at this time, but garden and fresh market growers may have some favorable host plants that may be attractive to corn earworm, plus generations that arrive now may produce new generations later in the growing season that may affect crops on a more widespread basis so trap monitoring is recommended.
