Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks are in the forecast for at least the next few nights as a low pressure system moves somewhat quickly eastward across southern Canada, dragging a cold front southeast with it. South to southwest winds will be common east of this front, and at least scattered precipitation may serve as favorable insect drop zone regions. The lack of more widespread crops at a critical growth stage where corn earworms could potentially cause damage precludes any higher risk despite the favorable weather pattern. Low risks are predicted from Kansas as far north as southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, and east into far southwest lower Michigan. Low risks then focus mainly from southeast Kansas into Missouri, eastern Iowa, and far southeast Wisconsin and points eastward tomorrow night as the front moves southeast. The system does look a touch more progressive today than 24 hours ago so risk areas have been shifted a little further to the southeast to account for a slightly faster movement. Additional risks may be needed early next week but there is enough uncertainty at this time to keep risks out of the forecast.
