Alert Details

A rather strong cold front is expected to move through the corn-growing region mid-late week this week. South to southwest winds along with very warm to hot and humid conditions are expected ahead of this front, which may allow for some isolated corn earworm moth flights into the affected regions. Given an unfavorable crop stage for the majority of plants/hosts out there at the present time, only Low migration risks are predicted tomorrow night into Wednesday from Kansas and Missouri as far north as southeast North Dakota, northwest Minnesota, and into western Wisconsin, mainly to the west of the I-39 and US 51 corridors in Wisconsin and Illinois. Low risks then shift southeast with the front Wednesday night into Thursday from Kansas into Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, and points east. Little to no risk is predicted once this front passes. Garden and fresh market growers are encouraged to monitor their plants/crops at this point as corn earworms may arrive and affect some of these plants, as well, even if field and sweet corn is not at a critical growth stage yet. This will likely change in some areas in the coming weeks, though.
