Corn earworm migration risks return to the forecast by Saturday night into Sunday and continue into at least early next week as southerly winds and a warmer and more humid weather regime returns to at least a portion of the western and central corn-growing region. With sweet corn entering tassel stage in some areas and field corn also beginning to silk across southern stretches of the area, the importance of trapping and scouting will increase. Low migration risks are predicted Saturday night into Sunday mainly along/west of the I-39 and US 51 corridors in Wisconsin and Illinois, and may extend as far north as North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. The risk area expands slightly east into southwest lower Michigan and Indiana Sunday night into Monday. There are still some questions on how expansive high pressure is across the eastern United States by early-mid next week and if we can drive another cold front through the region, or not, so stay tuned for updates later this week into early next week.
