A weather pattern favorable for at least some degree of corn earworm migration will remain in place at least through Saturday when a weak cool front looks to push southeast through the corn-growing region. There is some uncertainty in a second, potentially stronger front early next week, but for now Low migration risks mainly stay focused west of US 65 tonight into tomorrow before expanding eastward into the southwest Great Lakes region by tomorrow night into Friday. A Moderate risk is also predicted across portions of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri during that same time. The Moderate risk does shift a little south and east by Friday night into Saturday, and also includes portions of Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana. This overall setup does not favor widespread flights but some isolated scattered flights may occur especially in the Moderate risk area. Growers with crops at susceptible stages to damage are encouraged to check traps and scout fields throughout the critical growth stages to ensure proper treatment, or lack thereof, based on local crops.
