A weak cool front will be dropping southeast through especially the northeastern two-thirds to three-quarters of the corn-growing region over the next 24-30 hours. South to southwest winds are expected southeast of this front, and at least some scattered areas of precipitation. This isn’t an overly ambitious setup for widespread corn earworm migration from a weather perspective, but with such a large percentage of many crops at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage present now, we are being aggressive with the risk level and have a Moderate risk from northeast Kansas into eastern Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, southern Minnesota and Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and southwest lower Michigan. A brief break in the weather is expected Saturday, but already by late in the weekend and early next week, a second and stronger cold front will be moving through much of the corn-growing region except the far southwest portion by next Tuesday or Wednesday. Low migration risks are predicted out across the Plains states, mainly, Sunday night into Monday and then further north/east as far as the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region Monday night into Tuesday.
