A potentially fairly active weather pattern is expected across a pretty large portion of the corn-growing region over the next few weeks. The result will be rather frequent corn earworm migration risks – the key will be to determine those potential time periods and locations that may warrant an elevated risk especially given crop stage both in the corn-growing region itself but also in southern states source regions where many crops are now advancing past favorable host stages although some crops, such as cotton, are still present. Corn-growing region growers are encouraged to monitor the forecasts over the next few weeks as some new potential moth flights are probable into at least some areas. Low risks are found mainly west of Lake Michigan tonight into tomorrow as a weak cool front drops south in the western and northern corn-growing region. This front will continue southeast tomorrow and Wednesday, and migration risks will continue further southeast into the southern Great Lakes and portions of the eastern corn-growing region mainly along/west of I-75 into midday Wednesday. The forecast does become a little messier later in the week and next weekend as another potential system begins to develop and spread southerly winds into the Plains and western/central corn-growing region. A rather large broad-brushed Low risk area is predicted across western and central fields late week and into next weekend, although it does appear the potential for greater risks may hold off just past this forecast cycle into late next weekend or even this time next week.
