Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks remain in the forecast in the longer-term portion of this forecast, namely the Sunday night into Monday and Monday night into Tuesday time frame. The risk initially focuses along/west of the Mississippi River before expanding east to near Lake Michigan and into Illinois and far western Kentucky by early next week. As is typical at this time distance, there are some uncertain factors and a big one at this point is the potential influence from an upper level low pressure system expected to be positioned over Oklahoma and Kansas during this time which may interrupt southerly flow and/or associated precipitation near this low keeping corn earworms grounded. Despite these factors, a Low migration risk is warranted as more local or short-distance migration events will remain possible further north, as well, especially given the time of year and presence of corn earworms in potential closer source regions to northern fields. Continue to monitor subsequent forecasts for the latest information.
