Corn earworm risks will remain in the forecast on a nightly basis right into next week as another storm system organizes in the High Plains and Rocky Mountains and eventually sends a cold front through virtually all of the corn-growing region by mid-late week next week. Southerly winds will focus mainly west of the Mississippi River the next few nights, and Low risks focus in this region primarily for the risk of isolated moth flights through Sunday. By later Sunday and into next week, however, southerly winds will increase and also expand eastward as a cold front begins moving southeast into the corn-growing region especially by Wednesday. There is still some uncertainty in details this far out, but we have enough confidence to issue a Moderate migration risk across a fairly broad area from Minnesota and Iowa east as far as lower Michigan and Ohio, and even into southwestern Ontario, Canada for the extended portion of this forecast and also going into the holiday weekend. Better risks will focus west of Lake Michigan through Monday before we see more favorable conditions for potential migration then focus across the Great Lakes region by Tuesday into Wednesday.
