A very active and complex weather pattern is expected across much of the corn-growing region this week. A couple of cold fronts appear to pass through some or all of the region through this time period, and some risk of isolated corn earworm migration accompanies the fronts. Low risks are predicted mainly along/east of I-35 tonight into tomorrow, with a corridor of south to southwest winds east of the front but also the prospect for fairly widespread precipitation, as well, that may limit longer distance migration into some areas. The first front is predicted to settle southeast and then stall out from roughly Missouri northeast into the southern Great Lakes, and Low migration risks focus near and southeast of this front especially later Wednesday into Friday and also a secondary risk may exist back in the eastern Plains and heart of the corn-growing region as the second cold front begins to move in. Fresh market and processing growers are encouraged to continue their insect management programs until harvest as some additional moth flights plus what is already present may still impact vulnerable crops.
