Alert Details

An active weather pattern is predicted to return to much of the corn-growing region in the next week. As a result, corn earworm migration risks will also be on the increase especially across the western and central portion of the region as south to southwest winds along with precipitation chances increase. Low risks are in place tonight into Saturday morning primarily west of the Mississippi River and south of I-90. The risk area increases by Saturday night to include fields as far east as southwest Michigan and central Indiana, and a Moderate corn earworm migration risk is predicted for portions of South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. The Moderate risk area continues into Sunday night and Monday across virtually the same area but focused a little further south, and Low risks extend as far east as southwest Ontario, Canada and into Ohio. Farmers across much of the corn-growing region should monitor their fields for signs of new migrants in the next week or so.
