Corn Earworm
A quick-moving low pressure system and associated cold front are predicted to advance from west to east across the corn-growing region by late this week and into next weekend. A period of south to southwest winds is predicted along and east of the front, and there is the risk of an isolated corn earworm moth flight into the upper Midwest where some late and re-planted processing and fresh market fields are still at susceptible stages to corn earworm damage. As a result, Low migration risks are in place from eastern South Dakota east into central and southern Minnesota, far northern Iowa, and central/southern Wisconsin Friday night into Saturday and east of Lake Michigan into lower Michigan and southern Ontario, Canada on Saturday night into Sunday morning as the front moves east. Growers with fields still at susceptible stages to damage are encouraged to continue to monitor traps and in the field and take appropriate action, if needed, this weekend and into early next week.
