Alert Details

With northwest flow continuing to dominate the weather across much of the corn-growing region, no corn earworm migration risk is in the forecast until the weekend and early next week when the next cold front approaches and passes through at least a portion of the central United States. Low risks are predicted where south to southwest winds are predicted to increase by Saturday night into Sunday morning from Kansas and Missouri northeast into Nebraska, Iowa, far western Illinois, southwest Wisconsin, southern Minnesota, and southeast South Dakota. The risk area re-focuses back across the central Plains and southwestern portion of the corn-growing region Sunday night into Monday, or from roughly US 20 south in Nebraska and Iowa and generally along and west of the Mississippi River. Growers with crops at susceptible stages to damage, especially west of Lake Michigan, should monitor subsequent forecasts for the latest information as we move through the next few weeks.
