Corn Earworm
A rather persistent weather pattern featuring high pressure across the eastern corn-growing region and weak low pressure systems across the far northern Plains and into Canada is predicted for much of the next week. The result will be mainly light to occasionally moderate south to southwest winds especially across the western and central portion of the corn-growing region, mainly along and west of the Mississippi River. As time goes on this week, high pressure is predicted to build slightly further to the west and/or strengthen, so the insect migration risk does retrograde to the west with time. Low risks are in place, mainly for late-planted fresh-market and processing fields west of I-55 and Lake Michigan tonight into tomorrow morning, then along/west of US 51 tomorrow night into Wednesday morning, and finally along/west of the Mississippi River by Wednesday night and Thursday morning. No risk is predicted thereafter as the overall wind flow is predicted to weaken and any migration threat should be very limited.
