Alert Details

South to southwest wind flow is predicted to be rather frequent especially across the Plains and western corn-growing region in the next 4-5 days. As a result, Low corn earworm migration risks are predicted on a near daily basis from Kansas and Missouri north into South Dakota and Minnesota, with some eastward extensions to the risk area into Wisconsin and Illinois are predicted both tonight into tomorrow morning and again Friday night into Saturday morning. With a weak area of high pressure located across the Tennessee River valley, areas where higher corn earworm populations currently reside in the mid-south are not likely to move north, but instead more isolated flights from source regions in Texas and Oklahoma may make it into the southwestern corn-growing region in the next five days. Vegetable and fresh-market growers should pay especially close attention as these crops may be at a greater risk at this time.
