Corn Earworm
Low corn earworm migration risks are in the forecast tonight into tomorrow morning as a cold front pushes southeast through the corn-growing region. South to southwest winds to the east of the cold front are expected to be rather gusty and with precipitation likely along the front, some moth flights are likely especially from Missouri and eastern Iowa east into Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, northern Kentucky, lower Michigan, and also into southern Ontario, Canada. These early season corn earworm moth flights are not necessarily a threat to crops at this time, but higher numbers of early arriving moths can lead to higher populations later this summer when crops will be at a susceptible stage to damage. Thus, monitoring of flight intensity, even at this point in the growing season, is still important.
