Alert Details

With the recent and ongoing heat in especially the central and eastern corn-growing region, corn rootworm hatch risks will continue to increase and spread north as heat unit accumulations are met and/or exceeded. More widespread hatches and increasing populations are likely especially along/south of I-80 from Kansas and southeast Nebraska east across southern and central Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio where High risks are in place. Moderate risks for initial, or more scattered hatch risks and larvae pressure, extend from far eastern Colorado into northwest Kansas, Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, northern Iowa, southern Minnesota, and on east into Wisconsin, northern Illinois, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers are encouraged to dig up some roots especially in the High risk area and/or where crops are more advanced to determine if larvae are present and take necessary action, if needed.
