Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch/emergence risks will continue to spread north with increasing populations and growth in areas where hatches have already occurred. The greatest risk area in the next week is located in areas where accumulated degree days for this insect are the highest and thus where the most widespread hatches will be. Fields from much of Kansas into the eastern portion of Nebraska, northern Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio are located in the High risk area at the start of the week with more scattered hatches most likely from eastern Colorado into western/northern Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, lower Michigan, northeastern Ohio, and into southern Ontario, Canada. By late week and into next weekend, the High risk region has been expanded to include additional portions of Kansas and Nebraska as well as southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota and Wisconsin, and portions of southern lower Michigan. Growers in any risk area should dig up roots and evaluate if any corn rootworm larvae are present and take appropriate action or note locations of these larvae.
