Alert Details

High corn rootworm hatch risks remain in the forecast across the more intensive corn acres especially along and north of I-80, while south of the interstate an increasing threat for beetle appearances in freshly-silked/tasseled sweet corn is becoming the primary concern. High risks cover most of Kansas, Nebraska, eastern South Dakota, southeast North Dakota, central and southern Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, much of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into far southern Ontario, Canada in the next week. Moderate risks remain in the more “fringe” or lower acreage states including Colorado, western Nebraska, the western and central Dakotas, and into the far northern growing areas near the Great Lakes. Growers are encouraged to continue to dig up roots, both in corn and soybean fields, and determine what larvae populations are present. In the more advanced areas with silking corn, beetle populations should be monitored and locations noted in the coming week.
