Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm beetle emergence and potential damage risks continue for the next week across much of the corn-growing region, although a general focus is now shifting into the central and northern portions of the area as crops advance past critical growth stages in the southern reaches of the corn-growing region. Scattered reports of beetle populations meeting and exceeding threshold values have come in, and growers are encouraged to continue scouting efforts to determine populations locally. Even if treatment is not warranted, it is a good idea to see where populations are present as it may be beneficial to change planting intentions for next year’s crop. High risks remain in portions of Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks are found on the edge or fringe acres of many of these states as well as in eastern Colorado for the next week.
