Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm beetle populations continue to be rather high in scattered areas of the corn-growing region, and while the overall threat has waned given crop stage, there are still some late-planted fields that are still seeing pressure especially along/north of the I-80 corridor. Even if the crop locally is past critical growth stages, it is important for growers to continue scouting efforts just to determine if any populations are present as it could influence planting intentions for the 2023 crop. High risks remain in the forecast for the next week from extreme northwest Kansas into Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Illinois, Wisconsin, northern Indiana and Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks are predicted from extreme northeast Colorado into Kansas, far northern/northeast Missouri, southern Iowa, central/southern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and further north in more fringe or scattered corn acreage regions in the Great Lakes and High Plains. As the crop continues to advance, further risk reductions are likely in the weeks ahead but growers with less advanced crops or in known higher pressure areas should continue scouting.
