Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks continue to spread north and will encompass the majority of the corn-growing region by late week and into the weekend. Growers from eastern Colorado into Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada are all at risk of either new or continuing corn rootworm hatch risks in the coming week. Additional new hatches are possible in northeastern Colorado, western Nebraska, central South Dakota, southeast North Dakota, and into northwestern Minnesota as well as in portions of lower Michigan and southern Ontario, Canada not already included in the risk. Growers that have been in the risk area for a few weeks now are encouraged to dig up both corn and soybean roots and assess larvae populations especially in areas where corn rootworms have historically been an issue and where beetle counts were at or above threshold in the past few seasons.
