Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm beetle population risks remain in the High category for the next week across a large portion of the corn-growing region from eastern Colorado into Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Several areas are reporting some high beetle populations that are at or above action threshold, and even in areas where counts may not be at treatable levels, it will be important for growers to make a note of where these areas are as it may affect planting intentions for next year’s crop. We do expect to reduce the risk overall both spatially and temporally in the coming week or so as the crop advances further into grain fill stage, but until then growers should continue scouting efforts.
