Corn Rootworm
Initial corn rootworm hatch risks are in the forecast for mid-week and beyond across portions of Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Critical soil temperature heat unit thresholds are expected to be met or exceeded in these areas by that time, and the Moderate risk reflects the variable hatch rate and time frame especially given recent heavy rains in some of these areas that may delay or limit the overall hatch impact, so primarily scattered initial hatches are expected. Growers in or near the Moderate risk area should prepare to begin scouting fields, especially those a little more advanced, as some initial corn rootworm hatches are possible in the risk area in the next week. This is a little bit ahead of average this year especially given the relatively warm winter and portions of the spring months thus far.
