Initial corn rootworm hatches are predicted to commence across a portion of the corn-growing region especially later this week and into the weekend and beyond from southeast Kansas east into Missouri, central and southern Illinois, central Indiana, and portions of western and central Ohio. Heat unit thresholds are expected to either be met or exceeded in these locations, but given the recent pattern of somewhat spotty to widespread heavy rainfall, initial hatches may be more scattered versus widespread in nature, thus the Moderate risk for these areas at this time. Growers should prepare to begin scouting efforts especially where crop stage warrants it and also where a history of corn rootworms is known.
