Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm hatch and larvae risks cover much of the corn-growing region given continued heat unit accumulations being met or exceeded for this particular insect. Higher risks focus where these heat unit accumulations are the greatest, including much of Kansas, Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, central and southern Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, southern lower Michigan, and southwest Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks for more scattered hatch risks, and also on the fringe of primary production areas extends from eastern Colorado into western Nebraska, central Dakotas, northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, central and northern lower Michigan, and into additional portions of southern Ontario, Canada. Growers are encouraged to dig up roots and scout fields to determine local larvae populations and in more advanced areas, be prepared to monitor growing beetle populations in the coming weeks.
