Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks will continue to expand north and east over the coming week or so in response to greater soil temperature heat unit accumulations and crop stage. In general, heat unit accumulations are running about a week behind last year at this time, maybe a little less or a little more in some areas. Moderate risks are initially predicted at the start of this week from eastern Kansas into central and northern Missouri, extreme southeast Iowa, central Illinois, and central Indiana. By later in the week and especially next weekend, risks will expand north and include much of eastern/northeast Kansas, far southeast Nebraska, central and northern Missouri, southern Iowa, western and central Illinois, central and northern Indiana, and also into central Ohio. The anticipation of more widespread hatches exists from southeast Kansas into Missouri, central Illinois, and portions of western and central Indiana where High risks are predicted by next weekend. Growers are encouraged to commence or continue scouting efforts if located in or near the risk areas at this time.
