Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks will continue to spread north and west in response to greater heat unit accumulations especially due to recent and ongoing above average temperatures in many areas. Virtually all of the corn-growing region is included in at least a Moderate risk, with more widespread and ongoing hatches especially prevalent from Kansas northward into Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, Iowa, northern and central Missouri, Illinois, western and southern Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and into southern lower Michigan. More scattered or just commencing hatches are expected from western Kansas into eastern Colorado, western and northern Nebraska, central and northeast South Dakota, southeast North Dakota, much of Minnesota, central Wisconsin, central lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers are encouraged to dig up roots and also, in more advanced fields, look for potential lodging or other signs of corn rootworm to determine local populations and any potential treatment actions, either for this year’s crop or for planning ahead for next year.
