Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks will continue mainly across northern fields of the corn-growing region, especially those north of I-90 by this point in the growing season. Of more concern is beetle populations at this juncture to the south especially in fresh silking corn, and growers from eastern Colorado into Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, central and northern Illinois, central and northern Indiana and Ohio, Wisconsin, lower Michigan and also portions of the southwestern upper peninsula of Michigan, and extending further east into southern Ontario, Canada should be monitoring for either new hatches across the north or scout for beetle populations further to the south in the coming days. Corn rootworm problems will not be widespread but regular scouting and noting populations will be important as it may influence decisions for next year’s crop even if current observations do not warrant treatment in this year’s crop.
