Alert Details

An increasing risk of corn rootworm beetles versus corn rootworm hatches is now the dominant theme for this year’s crop and growing season, as most hatches should now be complete in most areas. Risk areas and levels are expected to remain persistent with High risks in more intensive corn acreage from Kansas into Nebraska, eastern Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, central and northern Illinois, Wisconsin, central and northern Indiana and Ohio, much of lower Michigan, and east into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks including most corn acreage in fringe areas continues in eastern Colorado and additional states already included in the High risk to the east, but especially on western edges to the west and northern edges along and into the Canadian border region. Growers are encouraged to regularly scout fields and monitor beetle populations, if not for this year’s crop but for next, as populations this year may indicate the need to adjust planting intentions based on local populations present.
