Alert Details

Corn rootworm beetle risks will continue across a large portion of the corn-growing region, although more advanced crops especially in the southern reaches of the area have been either removed from the risk area or reduced in risk level this week. High risks remain in the forecast across more intensive acreage areas in Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, central and northern Illinois, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, and northern Indiana and Ohio as well as into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks continue across the fringe acreage regions in eastern Colorado as well as in the Plains, and also in portions of southern and eastern Kansas into Missouri where any problems at this point are likely isolated to potentially scattered and confined to later planted fields as the rootworm threat for this year is beginning to wind down in those areas and will continue to do so further north, as well, in the coming weeks. Growers with fields still at a susceptible stage to beetle pressure, however, should continue scouting efforts and even if beetle populations are not reaching or exceeding threshold, it will be important to note where these locations are as it could impact planting intentions for next year’s crop.
