Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm beetle risks are beginning to wind down in response to higher heat unit accumulations and more advanced crop stages especially in central and southern reaches of the corn-growing region. As a result, risk levels and areas continue to be reduced especially south of I-80, with risks generally unchanged further to the north. High risks remain in the forecast for continued scouting needs from northwest Kansas into Nebraska, the eastern Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Illinois, Wisconsin, northern Indiana and Ohio, lower Michigan, and east into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks remain in the fringe acreage areas of eastern Colorado, western Nebraska, central Dakotas, and also across portions of Kansas, northern Missouri, central Illinois, and east into central Indiana and Ohio. Growers should continue scouting efforts especially in later or re-planted fields and also primarily north of I-80 at this point. Further risk reductions are anticipated over the coming weeks as this year’s crop moves past critical growth stages.
