Alert Details

With a higher percentage of fields becoming less favorable for corn rootworms due to more advanced growth, overall corn rootworm risks continue to be reduced and are now in the Moderate (scattered risk) category for the corn-growing region mainly north of I-80 and also further southwest into portions of northwest Kansas and northeast Colorado where heat unit accumulations are typically a little lower than further south and east. While the threat has lessened overall for this year’s crop, there are always some fields that were either planted late or re-planted that may still be attractive hosts to corn rootworm beetles, and also growers should continue to monitor any beetle populations as these locations may need some potential changes to planting intentions for next year, thus the continued elevated risk in the forecast. As the crop continues to push towards maturity, the risk level and area will further be reduced in the coming weeks.
