Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks will continue to spread north, especially in response to recent heat and lack of widespread, heavy rainfall in many areas in the corn-growing region in the last week and also looking forward. High corn rootworm hatch risks spread from Kansas northeast into northern Missouri, central Illinois, central Indiana, and east into Ohio with Moderate risks stretching from eastern Colorado into the remainder of Kansas, southern and eastern Nebraska, central and southern Iowa, central and a portion of northern Illinois, northern Indiana, southwest lower Michigan, and into northern Ohio. By later in the week and next weekend and beyond, the High risk region will continue to expand north into portions of southeast Nebraska, southern Iowa, further north into Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Prospects for more isolated/scattered initial hatches in a Moderate risk area will be found in central and eastern Nebraska, northern Iowa, and further north into northern Illinois and lower Michigan as well as into far southwest Ontario, Canada near Detroit. Growers in or near a risk area are encouraged to dig up roots and determine if local corn rootworm larvae are present and in what numbers.
