Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks will continue to shift north as they have done for the past several weeks in response to more favorable weather and soil conditions. Scattered initial hatch risks will push as far north as South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and into lower Michigan as well as far southwest Ontario, Canada in the next week. High risks for more widespread localized or regional hatches and larvae populations will exist from Kansas into Nebraska, northern Missouri, central and southern Iowa, central and northern Illinois, central and northern Indiana, northwest and central Ohio, and also into southwest lower Michigan. Growers with sandier soils especially in Wisconsin and lower Michigan may see earlier or more intense localized hatches due to greater soil heat unit accumulations in those areas. Growers in or near the risk areas are encouraged to dig up roots and determine larvae populations locally.
