Corn rootworm beetles should continue to be monitored across much of the corn-growing region, especially the more intensive acreage areas of Kansas, Nebraska, the eastern Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, central and northern Illinois, Wisconsin, northern Indiana and Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. High risks are present in these areas, with Moderate risks across eastern Colorado and more fringe acreage regions of states further to the east not included in the High risk. Growers should check beetle populations and even in areas where treatment is not necessary either through too low of populations or more advanced crops, locations of corn rootworms should be noted as it could impact planting intentions for next year’s crop. Risks will continue to be reduced especially in southern areas (such as with reductions near the I-70 corridor in the next week) as the corn crop moves closer to maturity or at least past critical growth stages for this year.
