Corn rootworm beetle count risks will remain in the High category across a large portion of the corn-growing region especially north of I-70 now with a maturing crop further to the south which is limiting any potential risk there, and thus subsequent removal or reduction of risks especially across Kansas into Missouri and portions of Illinois. High risks continue across a portion of northwest Kansas, Nebraska, the eastern Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, far northern Missouri, northern Illinois, northern Indiana, northern Ohio, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks for more scattered issues are found in eastern Colorado and fringe acreage areas in states further to the east. Growers are encouraged to continue scouting fields and take note of the presence and if present, at what numbers/plant are corn rootworm beetles as high counts may result in potential issues with next year’s crop. As the crop continues to mature, additional areas of the Moderate and High risks will be removed in the coming weeks further to the north.
