Corn rootworm beetle risks will remain in the forecast for the next week but the overall risk is beginning to decline for this year’s crop and also the area in elevated risks has seen reductions and will continue to shrink as we move through the next few weeks as the crop advances and matures. High risks remain across northwest Kansas into Nebraska and the eastern Dakotas as well as further east mainly along/north of I-80 in central and northern Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, northern Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio as well as into lower Michigan and southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks for more scattered and lessening issues are found across eastern Colorado into central Kansas, far northern Missouri, central Illinois, and further east into Indiana and Ohio as well as fringe acreage fields further north. Growers with less advanced crops should continue to scout those fields and take note of beetle populations as these observations may affect planting intention decisions for next year. Overall, the risk level is expected to decrease pretty rapidly in the next couple weeks given crop stage.
