Alert Details

Corn rootworms will continue to pose a threat to corn fields all across the corn-growing region in the next week. Hatching should be primarily focused along and north of I-90 and I-94 at this point this growing season, with beetle emergence likely further south. Fields in eastern Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, northern and central Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio as well as portions of southern Ontario, Canada are all susceptible to seeing corn rootworm problems. Growers are advised to dig up corn plants, including volunteer corn, in both corn and soybean fields and assess corn rootworm populations. Any significant populations and/or root damage may signify a problem for next year’s crop in that particular field with potential planting adjustments needed in 2016.
