Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch is expected to continue and expand further north, especially across the Plains states and western corn-growing region, given anticipated very warm to hot temperatures by late week and into the weekend which should lead to increased soil temperature heat unit accumulations, as well. The risk area envelops much of Kansas, southeast Nebraska, northern Missouri, central and southern Iowa, central and southern Illinois, and central/southern Indiana at the start of the week, but expands north as far as southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, northern Iowa, southwest Wisconsin, northern Illinois, far southwest Michigan, northern Indiana, and into western and central Ohio by the weekend. Growers in or near the hatch risk area should continue to dig up roots and assess corn rootworm populations both in corn and soybean fields, especially if there has recently been observations of corn rootworm pressure in the past few years.
