Corn Rootworm
Scattered corn rootworm beetle populations may continue to cause some problems in fields especially near and north of I-80 in the next week, but many fields are now moving past critical growth stages where damage typically occurs with this particular insect. Given the more scattered nature of any risk expected for the remainder of this growing season, the overall corn rootworm risk has been reduced into the Moderate category this week and mainly confined to fields along and north of I-80, or from Nebraska, Iowa, northern Illinois, northern and central Indiana, and northern and central Ohio and points north. Growers in these areas should continue to monitor beetle populations and potentially adjust planting decisions for next year especially if corn rootworms were a problem this year.
