Corn Rootworm
As the corn crop across the majority of the corn-growing region advances past critical growth stages where corn rootworm damage is likely to occur, the overall risk from this particular insect this growing season has been reduced into the Low category this week and is mainly focused along and north of I-80 where there may still be some late or re-planted fields that could still pose an isolated risk of seeing some damage. These growers should continue to monitor beetle populations and even if treatment is or has not been needed, beetle populations exceeding threshold values may be an indicator that changes to next year’s planting rotation may need some adjustments.
