Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm hatch risks are expected to continue across a large portion of the corn-growing region in the next week. The greatest risk of additional hatches is now focused mainly north of I-80 with new hatches mainly north of I-90. The risk area encompasses much of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, southern Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Illinois, southern Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and southwest Ontario, Canada. The majority of new hatches in the next week are expected to focus from eastern South Dakota into southeast and eastern North Dakota, northwest into central Minnesota, central and northern Wisconsin, central lower Michigan, and additional fields in southern Ontario, Canada. Growers are encouraged to not only dig up corn roots but also soybeans and volunteer corn roots to assess corn rootworm populations and potential damage.
